Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) , Application Procedure, Notification



  • The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) was formed in 1956, which coincided with the formation of the State of Andhra Pradesh on November 1, 1956. 
  • Earlier it was known as the Andhra Service Commission (formed in 1953, based on the regulations of Madras Public Service Commission). Later in 1956, APPSC was formed by merging the Andhra and Hyderabad Public Service Commission. At present, the six member APPSC is headed by the Chairman, Dr. Y. Venkatrami Reddy.
  • The major functions of the APPSC are as follows:



    • Recruitment to services & posts under the State through competitive examinations
    • Recruitment to services & posts under the State Government by selection through Interviews
    • Advising on the suitability of officers for appointment on promotion as well as transfer-on-deputation
    • Advising the Government on all matters relating to methods of Recruitment to various services and posts
    • Disciplinary cases relating to different civil services
    • Miscellaneous matters relating to grant of extra ordinary pensions, reimbursement of legal expenses etc.
    • Conduct of Departmental Tests in May and November
    • Conduct entrance examination for admission of boys to the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun in February and August
    • Conduct Half yearly examinations for the All India Services Officers in September and March
    • Overseeing temporary appointments in Government Departments
    • Advise the departments to replace the temporary appointments by making regular appointments through the Commission
Department Tests – Application Procedure
  • Application Form along with the enclosures and other full details will be available in APPSC Udyoga Samacharam Special Bulletin. 
  • Application Form Fees Rs.20/-
  • The form will be available at Head Post Offices (104) in the State or from the sales counter of the APPSC office, Hyderabad or by sending Money Order for Rs.30/- to Printer & Publisher, APPSC US Hyderabad.
  • Examination Fees: Each application must be accompanied by IPO/DD towards examination fee of Rs.50/- for each paper payable to the Secretary, APPSC, Hyderabad  and other IPO/DD for Rs.20/- in favour of Printer & Publisher, APPSC Udyoga Samacharam, Hyderabad towards publication of results in Udyoga Samacharam.
  • All the Tests in Gujarathi, Marwari languages are open to all Government Servants (Temporary or Regularly) irrespective of the fact whether they are working in the same Department or not.

Important Application Form Instructions
  • Only the Application Form available in APPSC Udyoga Samacharam should be used.
  • Hand Written/Typed Photostat copies/Outside printed application form and enclosures will not be accepted.
  • Before sending the Application Form the candidate should fill all columns carefully to avoid rejections of  applications.
  • Only the employees working in the respective departments are eligible to apply for the tests mentioned at notification copy Para 3(i) to (iv).
  • Candidate has to choose the examination centre as the District Head Quarter where the candidate is working.
  • Separate applications should be submitted for each test. 
  • There is no exemption for examination fee. 
  • Controlling Officer should sign the certificate in the Application Form.
  • If necessary, please enclose Service Certificate with all particulars.
  • Do not fold the application form under any circumstances.
  • The filled application form along with enclosures should be kept in the envelope supplied and send to the Commission’s Office.
  • Candidate should send only one application form in each cover.
Plan of Examination
Department Tests
  • The total number of tests is 65 which contain 158 papers.
  • The tests may be with books or without books, as prescribed. 
Examination Centers
  • All the Departmental Tests, except “DT for the staff of the APPSC, Divisional Test and Legal Metrology Department Test” will be held at all the District Head Quarters including Hyderabad city. 
  • The DT for the staff of the APPSC Divisional Test and Legal Metrology Department Test will be held at Hyderabad Centre only.
  • An applicant must choose the District Head Quarters where he/she is employed as the Examination Centre. 
  • The Commission, however, results the right to allot a candidate to the centre other than one chosen by the candidate.
  • Examination Centre once chosen will be final and request for change will not be entertained.
Examination Hall Ticket
  • The Hall tickers are normally dispatched to the admitted candidates, 10 days before commencing the examination. 
  • The Hall ticket has the Register Number, Candidates name, Test applied, Date, Session and Exam center including full address along with scanned photo with signature in front side of the Hall Ticket.
Use of Reference Books
Candidates will be allowed to use reference books in the Examination Hall for certain tests under following conditions:
  • Candidates should bring their own books without containing notes or commentaries.
  • No books or papers or any description which serve as guides, digests, short notes, compilation of questions and answers, etc. will be allowed.
  • A candidate should use the reference books containing Bare Acts only.
  • A candidate is not allowed to use any reference books if the Tests are captioned “Without Books”.
Minimum Marks
  • The maximum number of marks for each paper in a test will be one hundred (100) and the minimum number of marks required for a pass in each test will be forty (40) in each paper.
